CAR, NO WINDOWS

An immersive installation by Oscar Leto & Detroit Dyer-Miller

A life-size Mercedes 200E becomes the centrepiece of a haunting exploration of memory, inheritance, and transformation. Inspired by Detroit Dyer-Miller's father's car, the vehicle is reimagined as a decaying monument, overtaken by a monumental worm that weaves through its structure.

The worm functions as both parasite and symbol—embodying energy, guilt, indulgence, illness, and recurring dreams. As it consumes and reshapes the vehicle, the familiar becomes strange, turning a personal object into a powerful reflection on vulnerability, loss, and renewal.

Developed in collaboration with Studio Asolo, the installation incorporates bespoke crested rims inspired by Italian heraldry and Orthodox symbolism. These ornate elements act as protective seals, framing the vehicle's deterioration with sacred ornament and transforming decay into memorial.

Alongside the central sculpture, the exhibition expands through sound, design, and collectible objects, creating a multidisciplinary environment where art, memory, and contemporary culture intersect.

CAR, NO WINDOWS invites visitors into a space suspended between ruin and preservation, where personal history is transformed into myth.
